Record Speed for Longshoreman
April 15, 2022
Arthur Valenzuela Jr (VCLA Cohort XXII) was recently promoted to a Class B Longshoreman after 6 years of working on call day & night as a Casual Longshoreman. The average for such a promotion at the Port of Hueneme has traditionally been more than 10 years, but Arthur's work ethic and personal sacrifice combined with the demands of the global supply chain has lead for the need of more full-time workers. Arthur is now a journeyman in the International Longshore and Warehouse Union and aims to continue this path to be a labor organizer for the ILWU in the future.
